Home made spritz

Hey beautiful people,
So when I started my natural hair journey I had really dry hair and wanted something that I could use to hydrate my hair. I came across this recipe for a moisture spritz on www.kurlykichana.com and decided to try it out with the ingredients I had in my house.. I have varied it a little but the principle is the same..
I use an old bottle of Bath n Bodyworks splash that I cleaned out. I generally eye ball the ingredients so don't really measure..

I add about 3 dollops of Suave conditioner(it has no silicones so that's why I like it)
Glycerine
Rose water
2 drops lavender essential oil
Water( I make sure the concoction is more watery so it's easier to spray)

I then shake to blend I don't make a lot of it as I don't want it to go bad

I use Rose water because it improves the blood circulation in the scalp. Regular use of rose water can also promote hair growth. Rose water is also a very good hair conditioner and revitalizes the hair. It can also help in reducing inflammations. It has also been found to be very effective in countering the dandruff caused due to fungal infections. It boosts the health of the hair and so reduces hair falling and dryness of the scalp and the hair. It also makes the hair strong and flexible and so there is minimal broken hair or split ends
Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your hair which it always needs.
Lavender essential oil aids in hair growth.
So there you have it.. have any of you tried making a spritz if you have what's in it?

Celebrities that do their own Make-up???!!!

Hey beautiful people,
So the other day I read an interview on Tracee Ellis Ross and she talked about how her mother Diana Ross did all her own hair and make-up for her shows. I was so intrigued by this so while surfing on the oracle that is Google I came across this interesting article about celebrities that do their own make-up while on tour or even before they go out on the red carpet. I thought this was really cool cause I always thought that all celebrities have their own Glam squad on their beck and call for all appearances outside their homes. It seems that these celebrities have learnt from watching and getting tips from make-up artists and have recreated looks they like and even mastered their signature looks. Check this link out and get inspired to learn how to look fab always !!http://www.bellasugar.com.au/Can-You-Believe-Celebs-Like-Olivia-Palermo-Kate-Middleton-Taylor-Swift-DIY-Hair-Makeup-22741252

Curl Definition

Hey beautiful people,
So people are always asking how my hair curls like it does and if I add anything to it to make it curly. I usually answer that that is the way my hair is naturally and they get disappointed because they think theirs cannot achieve the same look. I disagree and think that all black hair can achieve a curl definition of sorts depending on what technique you use to do it. Once you begin learning more about natural black hair, you'll soon discover that it comes in way more than one texture. Black hair can run the from straight to slightly wavy to super tight coils, but many people of African descent find that their natural hair falls somewhere in between. You don't have to be biracial or multiracial to have hair that's described as "naturally curly." Curls may range in size from pen springy to fat marker, but the care and maintaining of them is similar.

So in my case I have springy coily hair and some parts more looser curls so when my hair is wet it curls pretty easy, however for more defined curls I usually apply a styling product this can range from conditioner, leave in or even gel or curl pudding then I really really shake my hair (my kids think I'm crazy when I do this:))and leave it to dry completely..if I touch it it gets frizzy.
my hair freshly washed still wet

That is how I do my wash n go's but I also do twists and then when dry untwist for a more wavy fro look. check out this video on wash n go's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R-EX9qha70

This technique or close to this technique can result in different curl definition depending on your hair type. You can also achieve curls or waves from twist outs or braid outs either done on wet hair or dry hair. check this video on how to do a twist out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fltbbj4ajyM
Find the products that work to bring out the curls in your hair..Super cosmetics and other beauty stores now carry good curl definers, gels and moisturisers so happy hunting for your styler.

Love and Hate relationship with my hair

Hey beautiful people,
So I haven't posted any hair updates in the last month or more and it's cause well my hair has grown and this growth has come with issues. These issues being single strand knots, breakage and dry dull hair...gone are the days of easy de-tangling and wash n go's now it seems like I'm forever de-tangling and the products that worked so well are just not making my hair happy..I'm so not loving my hair at the moment!
This got me thinking as to why I got into this journey in the first place and I must admit it was to get the long flowing hair in the wind and big ass curly fro that I see on my natural hair icons..in the beginning but now I've noticed I'm surprised that my hair has grown so fast and that I want to have healthy hair more than I want the long hair..I hate the breakage and single strand knots so much..I love mixing deep conditioning treatments from stuff in my kitchen oh yes I'm a mixtress.. and I hate using heat on my hair. I think I thought the short hair faze would last longer and I would get to enjoy it longer but now I'm getting into a new faze of longer hair and I need to get into this new faze and research more on products and techniques to make my hair happy.. here is an article that I found on my fav blog on the advantages of shorter hair
http://blackgirllonghair.com/2012/07/7-unique-advantages-of-short-natural-hair/
Anywho word of advice is to enjoy your hair in whatever stage its at just know its a learning curve and you need to keep educating yourself...will post hair update pics soon!!
Be blessed y'all
